Pahalgam Terrorist’s House Blown Up Using IEDs, Another’s Bulldozed in Crackdown

In a strong show of force against terrorism, security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir launched a coordinated action in Pahalgam, Anantnag district, targeting the residential properties of two identified terrorists. One house was blown up using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), while another was razed to the ground by bulldozers in a swift overnight operation.

IED Used to Demolish Safehouse

The first incident occurred in the secluded forests near Pahalgam, where the house of a wanted Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, identified as Riyaz Wani, was destroyed using IEDs. According to security officials, the house had long been used as a safehouse for militants operating in the South Kashmir belt. Intelligence inputs suggested it was also a hub for planning attacks and storing arms.

“After securing the area and confirming that no civilians were present, a controlled IED detonation was carried out around 3:30 AM. The structure was completely destroyed,” an Army spokesperson stated.

The action comes in response to Riyaz Wani’s involvement in several recent attacks, including the ambush on a police convoy in Anantnag earlier this month, which claimed the lives of four security personnel.

Second Terror Associate’s House Bulldozed

In a parallel action, authorities also demolished the house of another terror associate, Irfan Bhat, a known overground worker (OGW) for Lashkar-e-Taiba. His residence in a nearby village was bulldozed under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) provisions. Officials claimed the structure had been used to shelter foreign militants and to facilitate logistics for cross-border smuggling.

Heavy deployment of police and CRPF ensured the operation went ahead without civilian disturbance. The demolition attracted local attention but remained peaceful, with authorities imposing Section 144 to prevent gatherings.

Official Statement and Public Reaction

A senior police officer stated:

“We are sending a strong message—those aiding terrorism will not be spared. Properties used for terror-related activities will face strict action, as per law.”

While security experts hailed the move as a tactical win in anti-terror operations, some local rights activists expressed concern over the collateral impact on families. However, officials confirmed due legal process was followed.

Background

South Kashmir, particularly Anantnag and Pahalgam regions, has witnessed a rise in anti-terror operations since early 2025, as militants tried to regroup post-winter. In the past three months, more than 25 terrorists and OGWs have been arrested or neutralized.

This latest crackdown signals the government’s firm resolve to dismantle the terror support network and strike at its roots—both physically and financially.
